A birth doula is someone who provides labor support for the birthing parent and their partner, and helps them to advocate for themselves throughout labor and delivery. Doulas do not perform medical procedures of any kind. You can read more about the role of a doula here.
Research shows that women who use a birth doula are:
less likely to need Pitocin
less likely to have a cesarean birth
less likely to use any pain medication
more likely to rate their childbirth experience positively
I attended my first birth doula training in 2011 and started attending births in 2012. Since then, I have completed many complementary trainings including:
Pathway 3 certified International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
Certified Hypnobirthing Labor Companion
Rebozo Training with Gena Kirby
Spinning Babies Workshop with Gail Tully
Sacred Pregnancy Mini Retreat Instructor Certification
TENS for Labor and Post Partum Pain with Renew PT
Advanced Doula Training with Ina May Gaskin and Debra Pascali-Bonaro
My current rate for birth doula services is $1700. This includes 2 prenatal appointments, support during labor and delivery, and one postpartum visit, within the scope of practice of a birth doula. If you need additional breast/chest/bottle feeding support, I offer a discounted rate on IBCLC services.
Contact me for more information, or to set up an in person meeting to see if we are a good match to work together for your birth.
